this season with 21.7 ppg, the only player

TSNs Jack Armstrong offers his thoughts on the impact of Russell Westbrooks injury, the upside of Andre Drummond, the dynamic duo of Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio, the bright future of Canadian Andrew Nicholson and the value of Paul Millsap. 1. Russell Westbrook (OKC): Will be out for the early portion of the season and thats a blow to the Thunder. The positive is Id rather him miss now and be back for the main stretch and the playoffs where his impact will be most felt. Hes far from a traditional point guard but he can really play and his dynamic style gives his team both a major emotional boost and more importantly a high-end impact player. Hard to replace guys like this. 2. Andre Drummond (Pistons): Had a solid rookie season last year, averaging close to eight ppg and rpg as well as getting close to two blocks per game. Hes got a chance to be a real game-changer as a defensive/rebounding force in the lane. Free throw shooting percentage was a huge issue at .370 and that must improve. Yet when I watch this young man, I see someone that, once he figures it all out, can be a load to deal with inside. Hes not a tremendously skilled performer right now but when I think of where he could go in this game over a good period of time with hard work and development, Im truly fascinated. Only time will tell. 3. Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio (TWolves): With all due respect intended toward Chase Budinger, who is out indefinitely with a knee injury but the real keys in Minneapolis are these two guys. If theyre healthy and right, whos to say that this club isnt a playoff team. Love is a skilled guy, both inside and out, and is an absolute beast as well as a rebounder. Rubio was in a position where he was going to take another step in his development and he missed time last season. Its always nice to have guys that are still reaching their potential and when I look at the TWolves, they can be a sleeper playoff pick this year if Love and Rubio are able to produce and play. If so, theyll be loads of fun to watch. 4. Andrew Nicholson (Magic): The experience of playing for Canada this past summer is going to benefit him immensely in his second pro season. I saw a guy who plays with an edge that, if given ample playing time, will be more than capable of taking the next step in his career. When youre put in a spot to produce and are counted on to be a primary guy, lots of times that force-feeds the process for the next season. It gives you confidence that you can perform on the bigger stage and, even though hes a bit of a tweener, hes ready to get consistent minutes in the rotation. Hes a hungry competitor and has no back-down in his game. Hard to keep guys like that off the floor. 5. Paul Millsap (Hawks): One of the more underrated pickups of the summer. With the loss of Josh Smith via free agency to the Pistons, GM Danny Ferry needed some help in the front court and you could have done a lot worse than picking up this guy. Ive always been a fan of his when he played in Utah and teaming with Al Horford in the Atlanta front court will give the Hawks some steady and consistent paint productivity. He plays bigger than his size with intelligence and purpose. Hes a fundamentally sound player who will do the dirty work. If guard Lou Williams is able to return effectively from injury, the Hawks will be in the hunt for a playoff spot in the East again. No Joe Johnson and now Josh Smith but theyre not done yet as a winning team. Cheap Air Max 1 . Thats exactly what happened. And they enjoyed every moment. Durant remained sizzling with 33 points, Serge Ibaka added 22 and the Thunder roared back from an abysmal start -- they trailed 22-4 early -- to embarrass the Miami Heat 112-95 on Wednesday night, erasing that big deficit out of the gate by outscoring the two-time defending champions by 43 points over a 33-minute span. The Shockers, who won the 2012 Cancun Challenge and the 2013 CBE Classic, have won all but one of their first nine games of the 2014-15 campaign, with that lone setback coming by a single point in overtime versus Utah earlier this month. Since the defeat, Wichita State has rattled off four straight victories, the most recent of which being a narrow 53-52 triumph over Alabama close to a week ago now. With the victory over the Crimson Tide, WSUs home winning streak was stretched to 23 in a row, the nations fifth-longest run entering this week. Meanwhile, the Lions are coming in flat as they deal with a four-game slide, the last three defeats all coming on the road. Last week, LMU followed up a disappointing 71-69 setback against Northern Arizona with a 67-58 defeat at the hands of Stanford. The Lions are now three games under .500, with one of their three victories coming against San Diego Christian. The Shockers won the only previous meeting between the programs by a score of 75-73 at home in 1983. Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday in the semifinals of the event, the winner taking on the survivor of the Nebraska/Hawaii contest and the losers competing against each other on the other side of the bracket. The Lions shot a solid 47.1 percent from the field against Stanford, including 6-of-14 behind the 3-point line, but at the same time the visitors turned the ball over 17 times and were outscored at the free-throw line by a 17-4 margin, en route to the nine-point loss.dddddddddddd. The only double-digit scorer for LMU was Evan Payne who delivered 14 points. Payne, a career 16.9 ppg scorer, leads the Lions this season with 21.7 ppg, the only player in double figures. The lack of a strong supporting cast in the scoring column may have something to do with the fact that the starting lineup has been juggled quite a bit in the early going. In fact, while Payne has started just five contests, the only player to appear in the starting lineup each time out is Ayodeji Egbeyemi who is shooting only 37.1 percent from the field as he generates 7.9 ppg for a team putting up 66.3 ppg, while allowing 69.8 ppg. Trailing by 11 points with just over six minutes left in regulation, the Shockers held Alabama without a field goal from that point on in order to capture the thrilling one-point win at home. Darius Carter led the way for Wichita State with 16 points, adding six rebounds, while Ron Baker tacked on 14 points as the team came out ahead despite shooting only 40.8 percent from the field, 27.8 percent beyond the arc, and a dismal 8-of-17 (.471) at the free-throw line. Baker is typically the go-to guy on offense for the Shockers, leading the team with his 18.0 ppg as he converts an impressive 46.6 percent beyond the arc. Carter is another solid source of offense with 12.7 ppg, hitting his field goal attempts (.565) at a higher rate than he does his free throws (.548). Fred VanVleet pitches in with 12.6 ppg, and although he is shooting only 39.6 percent from the field overall and 25.8 percent out on the perimeter, his presence on the floor is essential due to the fact that he has handed out 47 assists, more than twice what any of his teammates has issued.
