Price increases, decreases and sales

When we first started out the AUD/USD exchange rate was 0.50, thus we made the USD price the main currency for all programs and set the price at half of what we wanted in AUD. However soon after the exchange rate changed and it’s been rising ever since. Thus we have been raising prices simply to follow these rises; many programs have never had a real price increase over their entire life. With the current exchange rate around 0.97 we feel it’s time to give up maintaining this difference until the exchange rate goes back below 0.90. Thus from now on, all releases will be priced as either $10 USD or $12.50 USD for larger programs. (Generally a program that has an exe larger than 100KB is classed as "large"...)

Soon after we came to this decision the exchange rate dropped again, and it's been decently stable too. At this time it's around 0.86. If it's stays like this for the next few months we will probably change the prices again. It won't be the same ratio as before however as the old price was based on the exchange rate when it was 0.75 back in the good old days of early 2007. It could just be easier to drop the difference and just pick a price in USD.

Currently we are running our first ever sale. This was decided as the best solution to the recent currency fluctuations. For the past few weeks the Australia<->USA exchange rate has been under 0.75 so we have put on sale the programs that have had their prices increased recently. This will last at least a week, depending on popularity and the exchange rate.

The site is designed to allow quick switching of sales (it takes under a minute per program) so we might do this again in the future. Please note that this sale affects only the PayPal prices.

GigAlarm is now at a "reduced" price of $10 USD. As long as the USD<->AUD exchange rate holds below 0.75 all new releases will be $10 USD or $8 USD.

The sale is back. This time it will stay until either the programs are re-released at a lower price or the exhange rate changes.

With the release of Secs 1.22 we no longer have any programs that we consider over-priced. Interestingly the exchange rate is back up now...

If the exchange rate drops below 0.7 again (it's currently 0.75) we'll probably have a sale.

The exchange rate is (way) up again, so we're considering upping prices. $15 for the larger programs is probable.
