ACAPsoft For software As Compact As Possible

SLog

The forum is dead for now... and to be honest it has been more work than desired; php updates, spam, software updates... hasn't really saved time as planned. But that isn't the point for today. I just wanted to make some random rants about my current work. I was going to use the forum, but... anyway so for now I'll go low tech and just add pages to my site.

30 Sep 2023

What is worse; useless updates or no updates? Please discuss in the comment section.

31 Aug 2023

...and now this one, even worse, a month later... Sigh.

31 Jul 2023

Yep monthly updates. Crazy month of organisation, but nothing interesting. Later....

11 Jun 2023

Not looking good the lack of progress, yeah. More testing has been going on but it has been pretty busy around here. Heck, it is looking like we'll be on monthly updates soon. We will try to get a move on with some progress.

17 May 2023

Got around to making this page paginate nicer. It's limited to 20 entries now. This change also makes it easier to reformat it all later.

9 May 2023

Looking at the 'stuff' we are working on it has been decided that there will be releases when all of the 1.9 programs are ready. A few corners were cut for time reasons in the attempt to make the Feburary goal, and since we are late we might as well confirm all is good. This is very hard with software, which is the reason why we are generally very careful with how fast we release after testing. One extra complication/advantage is we are testing and developing on the new ARM Windows dev platform and we'd like to retest everything on that as it should attack our code on new angles.

So in short, nothing major soon, but we might update some Betas.

30 Apr 2023

All has gone to plan and we are back working on stuff. Hopefully May will see a return to releases. We said that last month? Yeah we did, but no idea why...

25 Mar 2023

Yeah, busy doing all sorts of things right now. If all goes to plan next month should see a return to releases. Programming work is stll going on though.

19 Feb 2023

OK. Well things got busier than we wanted, so no releases in the short term. Not impossible, but no promises either...

1 Feb 2023

Ahhhghhhhh!!! Quiet for a week! Don't worry. Just shifted focus right now. Releases still coming soon. Probably not this week. Testing ongoing instead...

23 Jan 2023

Egg v1.9 released! Reading though the description page does highlight how much has changed; Egg has a built in Web Server that enables full control of the timer (not including the options) via a computer or any other device that has a browser and is capable of networking. (Wired or Wi-Fi makes no difference). This includes portable devices such as the Sony PSP(TM) or the Apple iPhone (TM). Yeah. When we wrote that the concept of a mobile web browser was that rare. Funny stuff. Anyway we are running out of time. Big changes seem due next week. There could be more releases, or there may not be. Three more Betas. Not bad, not bad. Secs is the most likely next release....

14 Jan 2023

As expected, we're still late. Major situation changes are potentially coming up, but more on that another day. Today Ute v1.9 was released. Nothing else ready, but next week still has potential for a slight catch up. Egg is likely to be next...

6 Jan 2023

....and the first release of 2023 is TwinSeek v1.9. This ended up being a lot more complicated than planned as, like SmEdit, Break and JukeBx there was a incomplete new version so that needed extra testing. Is this release late? Sorta, but we are out of buffer so things happen when they do. We could get back to faster releases, but we'll need to be ahead again. Next could be Ute, but it could be Egg or Secs. Heck, it could even be CPUSpy! GigAlarm, the fifth unreleased v1.9, will probably be last. Loads of testing going on, and loads to go!

So hopefully we can get back to speeding things up...

30 Dec 2022

The last release of 2022 is Volt v1.9. Hurrah! There won't be another post this year, and certainly no release! TwinSeek will probably be next. Not sure when. It could be slightly early, but it doesn't matter much now as we have caught up and chances are we'll run out of ready releases soon.

But! 2022! Weird year for many. No exception here. The last two years have been especially weird really. But we have got the releases going as planned, and once the 1.9s are finished we should have some steady updates eventually. Probably not until later in the year... but that'd be getting ahead of oneself again. Last year we had one update in December... nine this December. Not too bad an improvement. On that note, Happy New Year-ish!

26 Dec 2022

The release of Stims v1.9 is on the site... a few days late but still faster than we're supposed to be releasing so is this naughty or nice? Dunno. Santa can decide later. In any case we are still extra ready so we still have one (possibly two but probably not) releases for this year planned. Volt is the plan. 'tis been ready and being tested for the past week or so.

It's nice seeing the Beta page a lot less full. The last v1.9 to be there will be BrickCol as that needs more research to be released and it's not a priority. (LEGO have added a lot more colours...) Anyway, I'll rant more later.

21 Dec 2022

TomeBase v1.9 done! Stims should be coming in the next few days then probably Volt then... well that's probably too much planning/promising. 'tis all been going well really. As part of the process we've been finding bugs, new and old, and getting a holisitic view of everything. Still on the accelerated release program, but we are running out of the easy ones. But there are just 8 v1.9 releases to go...

19 Dec 2022

Continuing the I-gotta-release-them-all schedule MaxWords v1.9 is released... with TomeBase and Stims being ready-ish (should test Stims some more...), so we'll probably have another release in around two days.

Almost missed this one as an odd bug was found in MaxWords during some extra testing, which was caused by some odd system permission issue. Found the cause for that, and the solution was simply to not ask for permission to do what we weren't anyway. So it was an easy fix... once founds. Anyway, till next time...

16 Dec 2022

Oddly, as planned, LotaMath v1.9 is released. To ruin all surprises MaxWords, which is very similar to LotaMath, is ready so we can push out two this week again.

This two-releases-a-week schedule is a bit naughty really, but we have fallen behind schedule, and we probably will again, so it's more a case of getting the easy jobs out of the way so the harder programs can be worked on without distractions. Realistically, aside from bugfixes in underlying libraries, most of these programs will not get a real upgrade. Their biggest use is as a test bed for said libraries. So most of the work is making the website and documentation current. Thus there's no real need for a protracted Beta schedule.... really.

14 Dec 2022

QWave v1.9 done... sigh. That was more complicated than expected, but it is good the issue was caught. Not 100% sure of the whys, but our confusions were caused by the C version of QWave being installed on a testing machine so it seemed to be working when it was not. Once that was determined it was just a matter of fixing an odd bug. But it is done now.

So LotaMath is ready enough and that will be released this week or next depending on if another progam is ready. So, while it is good that we are back to the target release day there's no time to celebrate..!

9 Dec 2022

Slam v1.9 done at last... oh. It's only been two days. Yeah, this is a bit of naughty schedule catch-up. Slam is very simple and easy to test... and it's probably not very interesting to a lot of people... so it's low risk. Slam was written for a bygone age. Some of it's features, such as remote shutdown, don't work with default configuration, and probably don't work even if you try. It was a much more trusting computing world then. You want to shut down a computer on your local net? Sure, you can do that.

But we are still several weeks behind. LotaMath is looking ready enough and that will be released on around the 14th... or when there's another release ready so there's a point upping the cadence. What could that be? QWave really needs to be released. Not sure if the issues are OS or code, but that involves much more testing. So much trouble for a simple program.... Sigh. Looking at the 1.9 Betas, MaxWords, Stims and TomeBase shouldn't be too hard to certify ready. These might be do-able in a day or two each. What's the target for 1.9 conpletion? Before the end of January would be nice...

What then? A much slower cadence probably. Things might even go quiet for a few months. Lots on around here...
